Can dogs eat cucumber?

Yes. Cucumbers are perfectly safe for dogs and make a low-calorie, crunchy snack. Serve them plain, washed and cut into small pieces, introduce them gradually, and never give pickles.

Updated:

Why

Cucumbers are low in calories, very low in sodium and fat-free, with a high water content, so they are especially good for dogs that need to lose weight. The two main concerns are overeating, which can upset the stomach, and choking, particularly in smaller dogs or dogs that eat quickly.

What to do

Introduce cucumber gradually and watch your dog when trying something new. Feeding too much, or introducing it too quickly, can cause a mild upset stomach.

How to give it

Wash thoroughly and slice into small, manageable pieces suited to your dog's size and chewing habits; don't give a whole cucumber. Plain cucumbers only.
