Can cats eat cucumber?

Yes, a small piece of plain cucumber is fine as an occasional treat. The ASPCA lists cucumber as non-toxic to cats, but cats don't need vegetables and any plant material can upset the stomach, so keep it to a tiny extra.

Updated:

Why

The ASPCA lists the garden cucumber as non-toxic to cats. Cats don't need fruit or vegetables in their diet, treats should be few, and the ASPCA notes that any plant material may cause vomiting and stomach upset in cats.

What to do

Start with a small piece. If your cat vomits or gets an upset stomach afterwards, stop and ask your vet.

How to give it

A small plain piece now and then, counted in your cat's daily food.

Questions and answers

Do cats need vegetables?

No. Cats Protection says cats rarely eat vegetables naturally and there is no need to add them to their diet. A vegetable can only ever be a small extra.
