Can dogs eat bananas?

Yes, as an occasional treat. Bananas are high in potassium, vitamin B6 and vitamin C, but they are high in sugar, so they are best kept as a treat rather than part of your dog's daily diet. Always remove the peel.

Updated:

Why

Too much banana can add extra calories and may cause digestive upset in some dogs. Banana peels are not toxic to dogs, but they are hard to digest and could cause stomach discomfort or, in some cases, an intestinal blockage.

What to do

A banana peel could cause stomach discomfort or, in some cases, an intestinal blockage, so always remove it. If you are unsure how much banana suits your dog's size, age or health, ask your vet.

How to give it

Peeled, in bite-sized pieces, mashed into food or frozen; as an occasional treat.
