Can dogs eat salmon?
Yes, if it is fully cooked, plain and boneless. Cooked salmon is a good source of protein and omega-3 fats. Raw or undercooked salmon is not safe, and smoked salmon is too salty, so keep those away from your dog.

Why
Raw salmon can carry parasites and bacteria; in the Pacific Northwest of the USA it can cause salmon poisoning disease, which is serious if untreated. Salmon has small, brittle bones that can cause choking. Smoked salmon and lox are high in salt. Seasonings, oils and sauces don't belong on a dog's portion.
What to do
If your dog ate raw salmon, especially from the Pacific Northwest of the USA, call your vet and mention it; watch for fever, weakness, loss of appetite, vomiting or diarrhoea. If your dog swallowed bones and is choking, call your vet straight away.
How to give it
Fully cooked (baked, steamed or grilled), plain, no seasoning, oils or sauces, boneless fillet; never raw or smoked.
