Can dogs drink milk?
Yes, but only a little. Milk is a safe treat in small quantities, but many dogs are lactose intolerant and get diarrhoea, gas or vomiting from it. Milk is also high in fat and natural sugars.

Why
Dogs have little lactase, the enzyme that digests the sugar in milk, so milk and dairy often cause diarrhoea or other digestive upset. Individual dogs differ in how well they tolerate dairy.
What to do
If your dog gets loose stools, gas, vomiting or tummy pain after milk, stop giving it. Contact your vet if you are worried.
How to give it
Only a small amount of plain milk now and then, and none if your dog's tummy reacts.
Questions and answers
